You can't, the text is stored as an image and the computer does not recognise it.





If you have a copy of Acrobat (not Adobe Reader) you can perform OCR on images to convert them to text. See here:

Alternatively, if you have a lot of text that you need to be able to copy from an image you can consider using OCR software:

You need Acrobat Pro not Acrobat Reader to highlight text or images and only if it isn't security protected.


The only other way you can highlight text without Acrobat Pro is if the person who created the file turned on the reviewing function before sending the file out.
